[How to] Sr8 only for dummies
While having a great day on the server, I got asked "Please teach me :d"
I took that kinda seriously, so I decided to write a sort of tutorial about the art of Sr8 only
Warning: this is how I play, it won't turn you into a real pro (har har )
Getting started
First of all, 2 things ALWAYS necessary, in any mode
Items
Gameplay
Let's start with serious stuff, in this guide I'll explain how to play against the average public player, my tactics won't work against an experienced player
For each map usually played you have to learn 2-3 fast routes to reach enemy's spawn as fast as possible: if you are fast, your opponents won't have time to react (Dust's example: if you start from southern spawn and rush really fast to black bomb site your opponents will be probably still entering the door and you can get an easy kill)
Once you are used to those routes, when you are close to the "meeting point" with the enemy team find unpredictable walljumps, in order to avoid their first attack, so you'll have 1 second to land and kill while they reload
If you are against more players, try not to stop your run, do a quick scope and run away/find cover
After this first match part, if you survived (yea, it can easly turn into a kamikaze attack) try to flank the rest of the opponents usually on the other side of the map (see turnpike, you rushed metro, now flank pillars; if your mates are still fighting you'll make some back-kills and get insulted, yey)
For the rest of the match keep running around, from cover to cover; when you are out of stamina stay crouched, you'll recover faster.
Everytime you turn a corner have a pre-scope in the point you think the average player can be (kingdom is a great map to practise this); if you are lucky you'll often spot an enemy and will be hackused, ignore and keep owning
They try to kick you? I don't care, this is an sr8 tutorial >:O
Omg I got shot, what to do?
You'll often get shot in arms/legs; let's analize 2 different situations
Noscopes
Omg is Mark really talking about noscopes? Yea it's sad
There are 2 situations in which you have to noscope, otherwise is stupid
Lil summary for the "tl;dr" guys
Get an headset, be always in movement, be unpredictable and think with the average public player's mind, don't panic if bleeding and use your head, noscope only if necessary
For aiming practise I suggest playing Quake live against bots, you can set the same urt's sensitivity and the rail gun is much sr8-alike
Hf
Ps: 800th post, let's celebrate!
Edit by Radeon: If you want, bind your fire button like this
/bind mouse1 "+attack;ut_zoomreset"
and it will zoom out much faster after your shot. (But it also means you can't use PSG or G36)

Getting started
First of all, 2 things ALWAYS necessary, in any mode
- Field of view around 105, I personally use 110, though most of fraggers prefer lil lower fov to aim better from distance
- An headset, many players don't understand the pontetial of a good sound
I use s_volume "1.05", s_doppler "1" and s_khz "22" and headset volume kinda high (In turnpike I can hear foot steps from pill's door to bathroom)
Items
- Medkit, always, for obvious reason
- Extra ammo: although is hard to go out of ammo, it happens, and you don't always find a dropped sr8 around
- Helmet, just to use the 3rd slot. It can save you from a thrown knife; much better than a kevlar

You'll often get shot in arms/legs; let's analize 2 different situations
- 1on1: you are against an opponent and he shoots you, don't panic
If your opponent is far heal yourself and pretend to run away, but stop after few metters and silently go back; he will rush to you thinking you escaped while you wait for him behind the corner: *boom* noob camper
If your opponent is close and shoots your legs don't heal, sometimes the easiest shot is the hardest and he will miss you a lot while you crouch-jump like a tard; just keep calm and hardscope him, waiting the right moment. Heal only when you have to reload (fast Q and R by default to play both actions together and save time)
If you get hit in the arms, run into cover. Then pretend to heal (Fake heal) By pressing heal, and then cancelling by switching to knife, then your attacker thinks that you're healing and comes to attack. But now you have your sr8 out and you pwn him. - 1on2 or more: if you are alone and get shot to the legs heal fast, possibly behind a cover, and run away; if you get shot to the arms don't heal, try to quick scope them while running away [run away in any case]
As for the 1on1 situation, they will follow you, act the same way and kill 'em like a ninja
Never run in long corridors, turn left or right asap not to give them an easy long-distance kill
Noscopes
Omg is Mark really talking about noscopes? Yea it's sad
There are 2 situations in which you have to noscope, otherwise is stupid
- If you are in the middle of a jump your scope accuracy will be just the same of a noscope, don't waste time trying to scope his head and go lucky
- Face2face: lot of newbs just jump to your face, don't hesitate and noscope, only the faster will survive

Good shout hiroh, I'll put it as a sticky >.>
And very good guide Marki, gj +1! But why not just use the UrT bots instead of quake bots?
If anyone wants to contribute, post here and I'll edit it in.

Re: [How to] Sr8 only for dummies
Thanks
Urt bots move randomly and sometimes get stuck as idiots, they cause crashes and can't replace a real player's gameplay whereas Quake bots have a way better AI and are well supported
@High: yea good move too, added it

Dont always jump/run around like a little boy getting chased by gary glitter.

Re: [How to] Sr8 only for dummies
@Marki: From when I've used them they all seem to be quite good, although you have to move all third party maps to another folder while running bots >.> (Idk if you knew that) But they're still good target practise, especially in the long tunnel by Marble Courtyard on Abbey

Re: [How to] Sr8 only for dummies
The best move a bot can do is some bunny-hopping, while most of players are able to curve jump and move at higher speed
In Quake I hardly distinguish between a bot and a real player: it will run away if near death, push if necessary, jump, collect weapons and armors around the map etc.
Ah and of course, only few urt maps support bots or at least do it well (ever played uptown with bots? lol)

Re: [How to] Sr8 only for dummies
What score do you get on it? I can't get much higher than around 70 lol
Re: [How to] Sr8 only for dummies
I've been testing skeet shot 2012, it will be a 360° arena and it's bit harder, bots don't lemming, but get teleported and pushed in random and always new directions; got around 80 Dx
Re: [How to] Sr8 only for dummies
Hmm sounds alright, I don't think I'll like the 360 aspect though :/
Had a quick look and can't find the .pk3 anywhere, link?
